NOTE: At this time, while still accepting manuscripts for Stand Alone Titles, BROWN PAPER PUBLISHING will not be producing accepted Titles until January of 2009. We will still respond to all accepted submissions and queries within 4-5 weeks. NOTE: BROWN PAPER PUBLISHING is not a Vanity Press. We are a Literary Publisher. At no time do we request payment from authors for the Publication, Production, Distribution and Marketing we offer.

Brown Paper Publishing is a very small literary press dedicated to producing quality titles. As we are a small operation with a very specific goal, we accept very few manuscripts. However, we are open to all works, regardless of content. We cannot offer any specific guidelines or suggestions to authors, other than to say that the work should be literary, pure and completely uncompromised.

We are now accepting the submission of manuscripts in the following categories: Literary Fiction, Non-Fiction (please, no War On Terror or Current Political Situation tiles), Poetry, Literary Criticism, Film and Television Criticism (please, no Film Guides or Pop Culture Titles) and Interview Collections.

Please only submit a completed manuscript or query of a completed manuscript in Microsoft Word format.

Brown Paper Publishing will respond to all accepted submissions within 4-5 weeks.

OUR BOOKS

Brown Paper Publishing produces books that are either 5.25”x8” or 5.5”x8.5”. The books are perfect bound with glossy covers and white or crème stock paper.

DISTRIBUTION AND PROMOTION

Once a title has been accepted, Brown Paper Publishing offers the following:

The Title will be listed through many online distribution channels and given a unique ISBN, EAN13 Identification Number (a barcode will be produced and will appear on the Back Cover of the title).

The Title will be available for sale through the Publisher’s website and all major online booksellers (including Amazon.com and Borders.com) and will have links to sale pages on every one of the Author Website pages that Brown Paper Publishing will set-up and maintain (additionally, the book can be made available for sale through the Author’s own site, if he/she chooses to do so).

All books will be shipped within 48 hours of the time they are ordered, regardless of the Point Of Sale.

A unique Brown Paper Publishing Online Catalogue will be produced featuring the specific author’s work (excerpts, comments, additional material supplied by the author etc.) and will be available to booksellers across the country.

25 advanced Reading Copies will be produced and distributed to newspaper, magazine, journal and on-line book reviewers.

Brown Paper Publishing will submit up to an additional 25 copies of the author’s work to a selection of literary contests. Any prizes that the author may receive from these contests will be 100% the Author’s. The specific contests will be decided depending on the work’s content, date of publication, author’s living area etc.

Every effort will be made to target marketing and promotional efforts to the area where the author lives. After the initial Advance Reading Copies, Catalogues and Contest Copies have been distributed, we will offer supplementary support, however there is no specific formula for this, as such support will be dependent on the situation.

RELATIONSHIP WITH AUTHOR AND PAYMENT

The author, at every step of the publishing process, will have the absolute final say as to aesthetic considerations such as Page Layout and Cover Design. Additionally, the Author can make changes to the books interior or exterior at any time after publication (if blurbs need to be added to the cover, if an introduction is to be added, if typographical errors are found or even if the author simply wants to redesign the book for their own reasons).

Brown Paper Publishing will design a unique Book Cover (which is subject to the author’s approval) or the Author may submit their own cover art. Cover artwork submitted must be formatted in a specific way which will be outlined at that step of the Publishing Process.

The Author will receive royalty payments of $6.50 per copy sold, regardless of the Point Of Sale or discounts made available through Points Of Sale. (NOTE: Royalties will not be paid on books purchased by bookbuyers at a Wholsesale Discount, as these books will generate no money, after the cost of production. The majority of Royalties will be generated through Online Sales Channels).

The Author may, at any time, decide to remove their title from Brown Paper Publishing, the title being immediately removed from the publisher’s site (and from all other sites within 2 weeks). The ISBN, EAN13, etc, will not be able to be reused by the Author if they decide to produce the book elsewhere or go with another publisher.
